Ask any average group of people, what they think of Birds of Prey and the answers will range from "Fear and Loathing" to "Awe and Wonder".

Ask any average group of people what they know about Birds of Prey and the answer is normally very little.

At Silverband Falconry we aim to show people just how amazing these creatures are. From the speed of the Peregrine Falcon to the awe inspiring power of the Golden Eagle.

Through education, entertainment, breeding and conservation we aim to ensure that these Magnificent Birds survive for Generations to come.

Meet Some of the Flock!

Morpheus the Golden Eagle
Joining the team last year Morpheus has already been to several shows and displays. At present we are concentrating on his hunting ability. He is being exercised with the aid of a quad bike so that we are able to reach the speed that Morpheus requires which is up to approximately 40 mph in level flight. Golden Eagles aren't the largest Eagles in the world but are certainly one of the most well known with the most stunning regal look. They are found right across the Northern hemisphere. Once mature Morpheus will go into a breeding project.
Tinkerbell the Rupell's Griffon Vulture
An awesome bird who never fails to impress with her 8 foot/2metre wing span. Weighing 7kg it is difficult to imagine how she could get off the ground - but fly she does. This type of bird holds the world record for the highest recorded flight at 33,000feet/11,000metres above their home range in Africa. Once mature Tinkerbell will go into a breeding project.
Mrs Robinson, Bert, Swivel and Astro the European Eagle Owls
These are of various ages and abilities allowing us to match the bird to the situation, Mrs Robinson and Swivel are now famous and much loved in schools across the North for their antics. These Birds are native to the European mainland, but have been recorded breeding in Britain. We also have Breeding European Eagle Owls

Bodacia and Moss Common Buzzards
These are Britain's commonest Birds of Prey in Britain but many people have not seen them at close quarters. Our Buzzards are happy for you (the client) to fly them, an opportunity that very few people get in the normal course of their life. Seeing how these birds can soar and how they would scavenge to survive in the wild.

Louhi, Loki, Achillies, Daisy, and Icarus the Harris Hawks
T
hese are the commonest birds used for falconry in Britain today, they originate from southern areas of the USA where they often hunt in groups. This natural habit and their easy going nature has attracted lots of fans in Britain, as well as a few critics. We love them, they make fabulous hunting and display birds who never fail to give their best with the correct handling. We also have Breeding Harris Hawks

Bewitt, Yagi and Ripley the Lanner Falcons
These are the Falcons you are most likely to have met at Falconry Demonstrations coming from Africa they tend not to disappear off chasing things during Displays in Britain meaning they are very reliable birds. They are also very Ariel birds Stooping into the arena, ousing style from 100's of feet up they are always dramatic little birds. Wowing audiences all over Britain We also have Breeding Lanner Falcons
Jake, Button and Tassel Barn Owls
These are used in a lot of displays and talks because of their beauty and steady nature. They are native British owls whose numbers in the wild have fallen to around 4,000 breeding pairs in the last 50 years from numbers in the region of 100,000. This has taken place because of a loss of hunting habitat in the form of hay meadows etc.

Ellwood a Great Grey Owl
This owl has probably the best hearing of all owls, able to hear a mouse under 60cm/2 foot of snow, they live and hunt in the Boreal Forests around the Arctic Circle. Ellwood is a favorite at many displays because of his good looks and rather curious personality.
Burdock and Sherlock the Bengal Eagle Owls
These owls are real characters who have entertained 10's of thousands of people during their careers. Burdock in particular is a favorite with the guests at one of our regular Corporate venues. This species of eagle owl actually originates from India and surrounding areas they are slightly smaller than the European Eagle Owl and are usually lighter in colour.
Cadge the Raven
Not a Bird of Prey the Ravens are scavengers, they eat dead animals. They are also very intelligent able to learn new things with relative ease. Richard has been interested in Ravens for a long time and has trained others. Zeus was famous (or notorious we are not sure which) and Cadge is shaping up to be the same sort of Character, able to shout at the dogs already and count. Ravens are not that common in Britain but can be found through out the northern hemisphere, we have even seen them in Lanzarote.
Dumbledore the White Faced Owl
Our smallest owl who originates from southern Africa. Because of their small size in the wild they eat a lot of insects as well as small rodents and lizards. Dumbledore is a real character who will sit quite happily while children handle him when he is not happy he has a funny little call which sounds very much like a growl.
Eddie The Snowy Owl
A firm favorite at any display, coming from the Tundra around the Arctic circle where there aren't any trees they don't really like sitting on perches and Eddie can often be found sitting on the floor or on a favorite rock in her aviary. Made Famous by Harry Potter these owls are one of the hardest to handle and work with, we don't recommend that people buy owls as pets and Snowy Owl especially should be avoided.
