*Please note that Silverband Falconry do not fly Eagles to Members of the Public for Safety reasons. They are large powerful Birds which no matter how trusted, have the potential to cause severe injury to inexperienced handlers.*
Falconry Training and Experiences
At Silverband Falconry we offer a wide range of high quality Training Courses and Experience days, covering Birds of Prey and all aspects of Falconry as well as Minibeasts and Mammals. Varying from taster sessions and afternoons through to 5 day courses designed which give you a good grounding before going out and buying your own bird. All sessions will teach you new skills whether you are new to Handling Birds of Prey and Exotic Animals or not.
These Experiences are so good they won Cumbria Tourism Awards Tourism Experience of the Year in 2009.

Gift Vouchers
These are available for all of our Training Courses and Experience Days, for either a specific
activity or for monetary value, between £5 and £100 which can be used towards an activity of the participants/recipients choice.

Bird of Prey Experience Day or Half Day
These Experiences are designed for Individuals with an interest in Birds of Prey who want to experience the beauty and grace of these magnificent creatures at close quarters. You will be introduced to our collection of Birds and shown how to handle them safely.
Your Falconer will demonstrate how to handle and fly the Birds and then guide you through the process enabling you to fly them yourself.
This is a hands on day where you are able to spend your time flying Owls, Hawks and Buzzards in the care of our professional Falconers. Our Falconers can also demonstrate different skills required for flying Falcons and Ravens.

Hawk Walks
Hawk Walks are a fabulous introduction to flying Birds of Prey. you will be introduced to the Hawks at Silverband Falconry including the rare and elusive Goshawk, you may even see her incubating her eggs or feeding chicks during the summer. (A unique experience in itself).
We will then take you out with our fabulous Harris Hawks and allow you to fly them yourselves.
These are one of the few experiences we run on a group basis, with set pre advertised dates for each year. Making them a brilliant way for Families to meet up from different parts of the country and enjoy an activity together before going on to eat locally. Contact us for more info.
5 Day Course including the Raptor Awards Beginning Falconry Award
This 5 day Training course can be taken in a block or as a number of individual days spread over a period of time to suit participants.
Falconry is not a pastime that can be learnt in 5 days but we can give you a good grounding which will allow you to obtain your own bird and begin the training process.
The only equipment you will make is that which is essential and may need replaced during the day to day handling of your bird.
What ever course you decide to go on please don't choose one which has you making hoods and gloves it is a waste of time there are much more important things to learn. Learn how to make them later.
Our aim is to have you handle birds as much as possible and find out what pit falls there are, what it is like to handle a bird fresh out of the aviary, and various other practical and theoretical processes in training a bird.
Once completed we don't cast you out on your own, we are always at the end of the telephone and are willing to help in any way we can. You have our support even after you feel confident to go it alone.

We are offering a pick up and drop off service from our Local Railway Station at Appleby. It is on the Carlisle to Settle Railway line so offers the perfect scenic journey to start one of our Experience Daysor from the Historic Market town of Penrith.
